by Rianne Schestowitz on Jan 07, 2025 Quoting: An easier way to read Linux manual pages | ZDNET — A man page is a manual page dedicated to a specific command and every Linux distribution includes them. Say, for example, you wanted to learn about the chmod command. You could either run a Google search or read the man page. Man pages are set up the same way, so once you get used to the layout, you'll have no trouble. Why? No reason. Hugo manages the page generation and scaffolding for new posts, and I manage the content files by hand. I don’t need to manage things often but when I do, Hugo’s strict nature eventually reminds me that I’m procrastinating and should get back to what I was supposed to be doing before I got distracted by tinkering with the blog. * ⚓ Ruben Schade ☛ A_big_thank_you_to_Hugo⠀⇛ The Hugo static site generator is the first one I want to call out. I’ve bounced around almost a dozen CMSs here since 2004, but I’ve been on Hugo since 2016. I first moved to Hugo from Jekyll when the latter was taking upwards of half an hour to render the site. Hugo takes less than twenty seconds to generate almost ten thousand posts, hundreds of podcasts, archives for thousands of tags, and some truly ghastly theme code that I’ve hacked together over many years. * ⚓ IP Kat ☛ 2024-12-31_[Older]_Blogger_issue_in_posts_published_by_Jeremy and_Ilanah [Ed: Google_(Blogger)_is_Already_Disintegrating_and_It's_a Reminder_of_the_Great_Dangers_of_Outsourcing_Blogs_to_Companies_ (Including_Automattic_or_WordPress.com)]⠀⇛ ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 261 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://tuxmachines.org/n/2025/01/07/Firefox_135_Is_Now_Available_for_Public_Beta_Testing_with_XZ_Pa.shtml Gemini version at https://tuxmachines.org/n/2025/01/07/Firefox_135_Is_Now_Available_for_Public_Beta_Testing_with_XZ_Pa.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ Firefox 135 Is Now Available for Public Beta Testing with XZ Packaging on Linux⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Marius Nestor on Jan 07, 2025 🄸🄼🄰🄶🄴_🄳🄴🅂🄲🅁🄸🄿🅃🄸🄾🄽_⦇Firefox_135⦈_ Firefox 135 promises to be a hefty release and the first to introduce support for XZ packaging for faster installations, smaller downloads, and enhanced compatibility and integration with modern Linux distro, instead of the bzip2 packaging used until now (including for Firefox 134). It was an absolute pleasure to see the creative designs that engaged community members came up with for the fortieth anniversary of the Free Software Foundation (FSF). Below are the fabulous submissions that we received. FSF associate members are now invited to vote for their favorite logo. On January 22, 2025, we will announce the winning design, which will then be used as the logo for the fortieth anniversary of the FSF. The winning design will be displayed on the FSF homepage, printed on all of the celebration materials, and possibly even stamped on some merchandise. For instance, it corrects SSA/ASS subtitle playback that was previously hindered by embedded font troubles. It also resolves several decklink challenges by adding missing video modes and fixing 8K video modes to ensure smoother high-resolution video output. This is natural reasoning: people associate high price with high quality and low price with low quality. It is important to understand that the term "free" can lead to prejudice. When one is told that something is free, he may decline to invest his time and effort to examine it, out of prejudice that it cannot be valuable. We have traditions to avoid this pitfall. When we want to get something nice for free, we say "please." When we do get something nice for free, we say "thanks." From prehistoric times people conducted ceremonies, some simple, others elaborate, to express gratitude to the heavens for its blessings. It was believed that sincere expression of gratitude brought good fortune while failure to do so brought bad fortune. This belief persists quite firmly to this day. However, the scalability of BGP as the Internet’s routing protocol is not just dependent on the number of prefixes carried in the routing table. BGP protocol behaviour in the form of dynamic routing updates is also part of this story. If the update rate of BGP is growing faster than we can deploy processing capability to match, then the routing system will lose coherence, and at that point, the network will head into periods of instability. Language is not instructing an interlocutor what to do in a way that leaves no room for other interpretations; it is better and richer than that. Like human language, HTML is conversational. It is remarkably adept at adapting to context. It can take a different shape on any machine, from a desktop browser or an e- reader screen to a mobile app or a screen reader for the blind (so long as that device is built to present hypertext). HTML is somehow simultaneously paper and the printing press for the electronic age. It’s both how we write and what we read. It’s the most democratic computer language and the most global. It’s the medium we use to connect with each other and publish to the world. Through his contributions to the discussions, debates, and (odd) dramas on Ubuntu mailing lists (and IRC, back in the day), I’ve learned a LOT. His deft technical explanations made the how of proposed changes understandable, while focused, non- marketing rationale answered the why. For developers involved, his approach was sure to have been helpful. For a lay-person watching from the outside, less familiar with the interplay between components, projects, and communities, his approach was a veritable education. South Portland Public Schools in Maine said it was forced to take its network down on Sunday after a cyberattack was discovered over the weekend. * ⚓ Scoop News Group ☛ Rethinking_cybersecurity_in_government:_Prioritizing recovery_and_resilience⠀⇛ The relentless march of cyber threats in government IT continues to challenge even the most fortified systems. As federal agencies pour billions into cybersecurity each year, they would expect to see a proportional decrease in successful attacks. Yet the contrary is true: cyber incidents are rising. Why is this happening, and what needs to change? It’s time to shift the conversation from an obsession with prevention to a strategic focus on cyber recovery. The stark reality is that traditional cybersecurity strategies centered on preventing attacks are insufficient. While agencies implement comprehensive security infrastructures, reinforcing their networks with tools and techniques to block threats, they need to think beyond stopping breaches and more about recovering from them. ╘══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛ ¶ Lines in total: 1917 ➮ Generation completed at 02:50, i.e. 20 seconds to (re)generate ⟲
