It’s still a Linux distribution, and getting to grips with how a Linux distro works can take time. Thankfully, these steps can make the process of switching from Windows to Linux much easier. While other Linux flavors like Linux Mint are also great for beginners, I’ll always have a fondness for Ubuntu. It’s the first Linux distro I ever tried, nearly twenty years ago, and it’s come a long way since. However, if you’re a diehard Windows fan, these Windows-like Linux distros might be more up your street. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Not only do content management systems help website users with content editing, they also take care of a lot of “behind the scenes” work such as automatically generating navigation elements, making content searchable and indexable, keeping track of users, their permissions and security setting, and much more. To provide an insight into the quality of software that is available, we have compiled a list of 6 high quality free JavaScript-based Linux WCMS. Try a more minimalist approach, sending and receiving your email from the command line with Mutt. § An Introduction to Mutt Mutt is a text-based email client with a colorful slogan: "All mail clients suck. This one just sucks less." Though it is far from the first text-based email client, it is fairly long- running, with the project having kicked off in 1995. The project was written from scratch, though the interface was originally based on the ELM email client, first released in 1986, and updated with features from other clients like PINE. Despite its age, Mutt has kept up with the times, at least in terms of supporting technology like PGP and support for message threading. That said, development has slowed in terms of features. If Mutt development is too slow for you, NeoMutt rolls in many patches that haven't made it to Mutt yet, like a sidebar for navigating between folders, for example. NeoMutt can even read your Mutt configuration file, though this won't work the other way around if you use NeoMutt-specific features. If you want the OG Arch Linux — self-described as “a simple lightweight distribution” — you’ll need to either configure a text file or use a script, as there is no traditional installer on most modern Linux distributions. Because of that, Arch Linux is rarely considered an option for users with little to no experience with the open source operating system. That’s okay because there are plenty of variations on the Arch theme that make it considerably easier to install the OS while remaining very much Arch at heart. One such distribution is called EndeavourOS. Although this take on Arch isn’t the oldest around (first released in May 2019), it’s one of my favorite options for getting an incredibly stable desktop operating system. But you can make a case that really, only four should be needed, and another case calling for quite a few more. Because that phrase “depending how you define the problem” is doing a lot of work. * ⚓ Daniel Lemire ☛ Efficient_In-Place_UTF-16_Unicode_Correction_with_ARM NEON⠀⇛ The replace_invalid_utf16 function scans through a buffer of char16_t characters, ensuring that any high surrogate is followed by a low surrogate to form a valid pair; if not, or if a low surrogate appears without a preceding high surrogate, it replaces the invalid character with the Unicode replacement character (U+FFFD), effectively correcting the UTF-16 encoding in place. The function should be reasonable efficient. * ⚓ Ruben Schade ☛ 25_years_on_from_Y2K⠀⇛ First, you had IT professionals warning that the issue had to be taken seriously. The public—and most critically, the bean counters—weren’t going to care that years were stored as two integers to save processing, memory, and storage capacity. People had to be made aware of the potential for issues so fixes and testing could be prioritised and performed. And even then, the potential for undefined behavior when millions of disparate systems flipped over and interacted meant we couldn’t be sure we were out of the woods until the clocks rolled over. * ⚓ Stefano Marinelli ☛ I_Almost_Died_for_a_Full_Sentry_Database⠀⇛ This went on for a week. Then two. Then three. The dev, at this point, sent an email “boasting” about how his idea of moving to the cloud had been successful for service continuity. After a month, the bill arrived. No one had realized what was happening. They never told me the amount, but I know a good portion of the remaining budget for the project’s development and promotion went up in smoke. And when an investor found out what had happened and how all that money had been burned, they pulled out. I can only imagine: if in the early days they filled 2 TB in just a few hours, with traffic increasing daily over a month… In the end, the project failed, and this event, while not the sole cause, significantly undermined the credibility of how the money was managed. With a router running a more advanced operating system on more powerful hardware than standard consumer routers, a whole world of new possibilities opens up. When I started modifying some files, I had contents to paste in from another xterm window, so I tapped my middle mouse button while in insert mode (ie, I did the standard xterm 'paste text' thing). You may imagine the 'this is my face' meme when what vim inserted was the last thing I'd deleted in vim on that FreeBSD machine, instead of my X text selection. For my future use, the cure for this is ':set paste', which turns off basically all of vim's special handling of pasted text. I've traditionally used this to override things like vim auto-indenting or auto-commenting the text I'm pasting in, but it also turns off vim's special mouse handling, which is generally active in terminal windows, including over SSH. * § idroot⠀➾ o ⚓ ID Root ☛ How_To_Install_Kodi_on_Fedora_41⠀⇛ Kodi offers a feature-rich platform for organizing and streaming various types of media, including movies, TV shows, music, and photos. There are a few reasons for that. One is that there's a lot more administration involved with Arch than with other systems that take care of the housekeeping tasks for me. GRUB decided to change how it works a couple of years ago. Arch issued a bulletin advising users to re-run GRUB every time a new version was installed. I would have to monitor pacman for every time grub did so and then re-run GRUB, if I remembered to do so, or risk an unbootable system. To get around this, I ultimately wrote a shell script.
