It's a lightweight Linux distro that Valve has built a lot on top of, and while the company has never publicly said why exactly it uses Arch, that lightweight nature is probably the biggest reason. However, there are a few other reasons, too. One thing that drives new users crazy though, is trying to access media on external USB drives. Here’s the easy way. § The Plex Media Server and Libraries The well-known Plex media server organizes your media in libraries. These are collections of different media types, such as movies, TV shows, photographs, and so on. You add directories containing your media to your libraries. The directories can be on local hard drives, external mounted USB drives, or some other network-accessible location. These directories are called sources. On Linux, USB drives must be mounted before they can be accessed. That’s fine, we can use standard Linux techniques to do this. But plex has a further requirement. Plex creates a Linux user called plex. This user must have access to the media. Time and again I’ve heard how this stumbling block drives people to give up. After floundering in stormy seas of permissions and file and directory ownership, they abandon ship. The label now seems anachronistic, as HF is among the lowest ranges of radio frequencies that see regular use. This setting of the goalposts in the early days of radio technology means that modern communications standards like 5G are pushing major applications into the EHF or "extremely high frequency" band. The frontiers of basic radio technology now lie in the terahertz range, where the demarcation between radio waves and light is blurred and the known techniques for both only partially apply. HF, by contrast, is ancient technology. HF emissions can be generated by simple, brute-force means. Ironically, this makes HF a bit difficult: the incredible miniaturization and energy efficiency of modern electronics makes HF radio hard to receive and transmit in a reasonable footprint, one of several reasons that HF radio sees little consumer use. * ⚓ The New Stack ☛ Ubuntu_Linux:_Install_the_Suricata_Intrusion_Detection System⠀⇛ Suricata is a high-performance, open source network analysis and threat detection software that includes features like alerts, automated protocol detention, Lua scripting, and industry-standard outputs. * ⚓ The New Stack ☛ Linux:_Create_System_Backups_With_rsnapshot⠀⇛ One step to data reliability is backing up your data on a regular basis. He writes that he’s “invoking point 18 of the plugin directory guidelines,” in which the WordPress team reserves several rights, including removing a plugin, or changing it “without developer consent.” Mullenweg explains that the move has to do with WP Engine’s recently-filed lawsuit against him and Automattic. * ⚓ David Darnes ☛ WordPress_Alternatives_-_David_Darnes⠀⇛ Due to gestures vaguely, everything going on right now with WordPress, I thought I'd put together a list of alternative CMSs that better fit the criteria someone might have for their website. The modern CMS landscape is super broad, with the very definition of "Content Management System" being stretched. Some see it as a full-package website platform, and some see it as just UI for their content stored elsewhere. The criteria for this list are "Can it be downloaded, dropped onto a server, and you'll have a website?" This eliminates API and git-based CMSs, which I enjoy using; however, wiring a daisy chain of tools is just not viable for many. * ⚓ Nick Heer ☛ What_the_Hell_Is_Going_on_With_WordPress_and_WPEngine?⠀⇛ From a distance, it looks like an expensive pissing match between a bunch of increasingly unlikable parties, and I would very much appreciate if it never affects my self-hosted version of WordPress. Maybe it is a little confusing that WPEngine is not affiliated with WordPress, but I only learned this week that WordPress.org is personally owned by Mullenweg and is not actually affiliated with Automattic or WordPress.com. From Mullenweg’s perspective, this confusion is beneficial, but the confusion with WPEngine is not. From my perspective, I would not like to be confused. ╘══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛ ¶ Lines in total: 1951 ➮ Generation completed at 02:49, i.e. 23 seconds to (re)generate ⟲
