These extensions serve as “addons” that you can easily install and tweak according to your needs. The GNOME extensions that you install need to be compatible with the GNOME desktop version that you are running. For example, extensions designed to work on the GNOME 45 desktop may not work on the GNOME 46 desktop, and vice versa. Sometimes they do. it’s just, not guaranteed that they do. Some are created for businesses, some for gamers, some for hardcore geeks, and some for users who've never touched any OS besides Windows. Linux runs the gamut. However, some distributions can easily serve users of all skill levels and needs. These distributions are easy for beginners to use, but offer everything needed for advanced users -- and everyone in between. This all started when I purchased my first System76 desktop machine (a Leopard Extreme, which is no longer offered). Prior to that, I was happily using elementary OS. But I decided to give Pop!_OS a try and, lo and behold, it took a day for me to realize System76's in-house OS was just right for me. By using a framework, a developer lets the framework control portions of their application. While it’s perfectly possible to code a web application without using a framework, it’s more practical to use one. Lisp (derives from “LISt Processing”) is one of the oldest programming languages. It was invented in 1958, with the language being conceived by John McCarthy and is based on his paper “Recursive Functions of Symbolic Expressions and Their Computation by Machine”. Over the years, Lisp has evolved into a family of programming languages. The most commonly used general-purpose dialects are Common Lisp and Scheme. Other dialects include Franz Lisp, Interlisp, Portable Standard Lisp, XLISP and Zetalisp. Here’s our verdict on the finest web frameworks for Lisp captured in a legendary Linuxlinks chart. We only feature free and open source software. * ⚓ es_-_extensible_shell_-_LinuxLinks⠀⇛ es is an extensible shell with higher-order functions. Tag templates can modify original filename, extract metadata from the files or anything in between. A rich library of built- in tags helps with working with many common file types out-of- the-box. Whether you need to organize your files, standardize naming conventions, or perform complex renaming tasks, tempren can help you get the job done efficiently. This is free and open source software. * ⚓ Elk_-_tiny_embeddable_JavaScript_engine_-_LinuxLinks⠀⇛ Elk is a tiny embeddable JavaScript engine that implements a small but usable subset of ES6. It is designed for microcontroller development. Instead of writing firmware code entirely in C/C++, Elk allows to add JavaScript customisations to the firmware developed in C. Elk’s approach is different from other scripting environments like micropython, which provide a complete JS API for everything. Elk is completely bare, it does not even have a standard library. All required functionality is supposed to be imported from C/C++ firmware, and JS code simply orchestrates things. That leaves Elk very minimal and tunable. This is free and open source software. * ⚓ cosh_-_concatenative_command-line_shell_-_LinuxLinks⠀⇛ cosh is a concatenative command-line shell. Not very useful, but still a small, small, percentage of the usable syscalls were totally possible to run unlocked. A side note on fast syscalling would also be how linux made gettimeofday() into not-a-syscall by mapping a readonly page into each process so when they call this via glibc, they read the timer value out of a page in ram without having to make a syscall at all, which of course is even faster than having an unlocked call for it. * § Fedora Family / IBM⠀➾ o ⚓ Fedora Project ☛ Fedora_Community_Blog:_Fedora_Operations Architect_Weekly⠀⇛ This weeks report is coming to you on Flock-eve! We are confident that shifting to a remote working model will strengthen the FSF and empower us to continue advocating for user freedom long into the future. But first we must say goodbye to our office, and we'd love for you to join us. For the final time, we will open the office to everyone who would like to visit the office one last time on Friday, August 16th from 6: 00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for our move-out party. While we're spending time together and saying farewell to our office, we will have our GNU Press shop open for you to get any FSF merch that you've had your eye on, but haven't quite made the leap to purchase, and we will also be running a donation-based garage sale. We have a variety of furniture (including desks, chairs, and a conference table) and other office odds and ends that we'd like to go to the community. This is one reason why you're given go and not await. * ⚓ [Old] LogRocket Inc ☛ When_to_use_Rust_and_when_to_use_Go⠀⇛ What’s more, Go has built-in support for the HTTP web protocol. You can quickly design a small API using the built-in HTTP support and run it as a microservice. Therefore, Go fits well with the microservices architecture and serves the needs of API developers. It turns out, the 'native' ways of doing it are inefficient and buggy. If you handle the transparency yourself, you avoid these bugs, and serve a file that's half the size, or less. Although that may have been the case some time ago, it's no longer a reality. You could go your entire life with Linux and never run a single command. That's how far the Linux desktop has come over the years. However, for some users, the power offered by the Linux CLI (Command Line Interface) can be enticing. And, as someone who's used Linux for decades, I still revert back to the command line for certain things. That's because the CLI can be really efficient.
