Why? The list is long but includes things like security, reliability, and flexibility, all three of which have been constants from day one. In all the years I've used Linux, I've watched the market share for the open-source operating system linger in the single digits, rarely reaching the 5% range. I expect we'll see a significant shift in that number over the coming years, until Linux finally overtakes both Windows and MacOS. That's crazy talk, right? Although they are not dedicated comic book viewers, KOReader, PreviewQt, Evince, Papers (a fork of Evince), and okular have support for the common comic book archive files, and merit mention here. To provide an insight into the quality of software that is available, we have compiled a list of 13 proficient dedicated comic book viewers. It refers to the notion that a still image can convey a complex idea. Images can portray a lot of information quickly and more efficiently than text. They capture memories, and never let you forget something you want to remember, and refresh it in your memory. Images are part of every day internet usage, and are particularly important for social media engagement. A good image viewer is an essential part of any operating system. Its purpose is simple—to serve as a backup plan for Mint developers in case of unforeseen developments with Ubuntu. However, many think LMDE should take the lead and become the Mint’s flagship edition—an idea we strongly support for one simple reason. It offers the best of both worlds: Debian’s renowned stability, reliability, and predictability, paired with Mint’s perfectly implemented Cinnamon desktop environment, thus providing a user- friendly and top-quality desktop experience. To really add insult to injury, LightBurn is paid software, with users having to purchase a yearly license after the time-limited demo period. Accordingly, any Linux users who recently purchased a year’s license for the software can ask for a refund. Oh, and if you’re holding out hope that the community can swoop in and take over maintaining the Linux builds, don’t — LightBurn is closed source. While there are open source projects like LaserWeb that can be used to control these types of machines regardless of what operating system you’re running, losing LightBurn on Linux definitely hurts. While we try not to put our stamp on closed source proprietary software because of situations exactly like this one, we have to admit that LightBurn was a nice tool, especially when compared to the joke software that many of these lasers ship with. Instead, it uses LLVM's JIT compiler to dynamically convert the graphics-related code to be rendered into rasterized data for display. It offers better performance compared to softpipe. Closed-source drivers have long been a major obstacle to the desktop ecosystem of the riscv64 architecture, causing most riscv64 development boards' built-in GPUs to be partially or completely unusable. Consequently, desktop distributions had to use software rendering as a substitute. For a long time, the JIT backend used by Mesa's LLVMpipe was the outdated MCJIT, which lacked architecture support, rather than the newer ORCJIT, which supports a broader range of architectures. Since MCJIT has been officially replaced by ORCJIT and no longer accepts new architecture updates, Mesa had to use the lower-performing softpipe for software rendering on architectures like riscv64. This rendered desktop environments almost unusable, devastating the desktop ecosystem. As a result, the open-source community was eager to have a faster software renderer on the riscv64 architecture. * ⚓ Programming_Ada:_Implementing_The_Lock-Free_Ring_Buffer⠀⇛ In the previous article we looked at designing a lock-free ring buffer (LFRB) in Ada, contrasting and comparing it with the C++-based version which it is based on, and highlighting the Ada way of doing things. In this article we’ll cover implementing the LFRB, including the data request task that the LFRB will be using to fill the buffer with. Accompanying the LFRB is a test driver, which will allow us to not only demonstrate the usage of the LFRB, but also to verify the correctness of the code. * ⚓ Programming_Tiny_Blinkenlight_Projects_With_Light⠀⇛ [mitxela] has a tiny problem, literally: some of his projects are so small as to defy easy programming. This operating system isn't for everyone, and you should allow yourself to experiment without committing to it as your daily driver. The easiest way to do that is to install Linux as a dual-boot operating system. By doing this, you can use the Linux distribution you choose at any time while retaining the ability to switch to Windows when necessary. (For some professionals, that's often.) After installing your new Linux distro, you should also follow a tutorial on switching from Linux to Windows to make sure that you don't miss any important steps. Forgetting to sync to your cloud storage won't break your system, but it will be inconvenient. Switching to Linux takes time, but you'll be amazed at the creative and unusual things your computer can do when it isn't bound to the limitations of conventional operating systems.
