It’s based on my experience as an external developer working on the driver, and are shared with the goal of helping others navigate the driver code. Acknowledgments: These tips were gathered thanks to the countless help received from AMD developers during the driver development process. The list below was obtained by examining open source code, reviewing public documentation, playing with tools, asking in public forums and also with the help of my former GSoC mentor, Rodrigo_Siqueira. ✐ Pre-Debugging Steps:⠀✐ Before diving into an issue, it’s crucial to perform two essential steps: 1) Check the latest changes: Ensure you’re working with the latest AMD driver modifications located in the amd-staging-drm-next_branch maintained by Alex Deucher. You may also find bug fixes for newer kernel versions on branches that have the name pattern drm-fixes-. 2) Examine the issue tracker: Confirm that your issue isn’t already documented and addressed in the AMD display driver issue tracker. If you find a similar issue, you can team up with others and speed up the debugging process. It also includes an onboard QWICC connector for easy interfacing with a wide range of sensors and peripherals. We have already covered other Sparkfun dev boards like DataLogger IoT, Datalogger IoT – 9DoF, and SparkFun Thing Plus Matter you can check those out if interested. * ⚓ CNX Software ☛ Mixtile_Core_3588E_development_kit_review_–_Part_1: Unboxing_and_first_boot⠀⇛ Mixtile Core 3588E is a Rockchip RK3588 SO-DIMM system-on- module with up to 32GB LPDDR4 and 256GB eMMC flash that follows NVIDIA Jetson Nano, TX2 NX, Xavier NX, and Orin Nano form factor and should work with any board made for Jetson SO-DIMM modules. We first covered the module last April, but Mixtile is now shipping their Rockchip RK3588 module and sent us a development kit with the Mixtile Core 3588 SoM fitted with a fansink and a carrier board that looks quite similar to the NVIDIA Jetson Nano developer kit we reviewed a few years ago, although its design is closer to the new B01 developer kit as we’ll see below.  We’ll start the review with an unboxing and first boot, before testing it in more detail with Ubuntu 22.04 in the second part of the review. * ⚓ Six_ways_to_make_your_headphones_sound_better⠀⇛ So you bought a new pair of headphones, but you feel there’s something missing in the sound. While working on integrating Delve with Packit, I found myself trying to fix some dependencies again. This is not usually a problem, but in some packages, like Delve, the version of the already existing Fedora packages containing the dependencies doesn’t match. Patching tests to adapt them to a different version when the upstream project is active and well-tested sounds like a bad idea. So, I bundled the dependencies. * ⚓ Kevin_Fenzi:_Time_off_when_you’re_paid_to_work_in_a_community [Ed: No, Kevin Fenzi, Fedora is not a community and its Council is controlled by IBM employees]⠀⇛ I thought I would share my thoughts around taking time off when you are paid to work in a community setting. The rating covers four sustainability themes: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. This is the third consecutive year we have been given a Platinum medal, with an improved score of 88/100, up from 75/100 in 2022. We are the only smartphone manufacturers to score Platinum status for three years in a row! I’m not sure I can pin point to the exact timeframe - there is almost no reason for them to be late in the game technically speaking. One could have made a walking simulator back in the 1990s even with limited 3D tech available back then. But somehow it feels like a relatively recent genre emerging in the mid 2000s, with games like Go Home, Dear Esther, and later on Firewatch, and probably a few others that I forgot about. The concept is fairly simple: the game is mostly about walking around and exploring an often very limited or linear environment, and trying to follow some kind of storyline or piecing back memories together. The genre is defined by a 1st person viewpoint, and having very empty environments with almost no-one around. Turns out this is perfect for devs who want to save money on character animations and re-use static assets as often as possible. It integrates a 2.4 GHz transceiver compliant with Bluetooth ® Low Energy and IEEE 802.15.4-based technologies, supporting Bluetooth 5 (LE), Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Matter, and Zigbee. * ⚓ Arduino ☛ A_glockenspiel_that_plays_itself⠀⇛ An Arduino Mega 2560 board controls those solenoids through FETs (field-effect transistors). Those are necessary because the solenoids each require about 1A of current, which is more than the Arduino can supply through a pin. CamsLab also implemented flyback diodes to prevent damage, since solenoids are inductive loads. Those components and the copper bars mount onto a simple frame made of aluminum extrusion. * ⚓ Raspberry Pi ☛ This_Amiga_is_not_an_Amiga_|_The_MagPi_#137⠀⇛ Buying a used Amiga 1200 – a computer launched by Commodore in 1992 just two years before it filed for bankruptcy – is sure to leave a dent in your wallet. The 32-bit machine in its most basic form tends to sell for upwards of £300. The StrIoT Logical Optimiser applies a set of rewrite rules to a stream-processing program, generating a set of variants that can be reasoned about, ranked, and deployed. The problem I've been tackling is that a variant may appear to be semantically equivalent to another, but compare (with ==) as distinct. * ⚓ Peter_Czanik:_The_syslog-ng_Insider_2023-12:_compressed_HTTP;_packages; OpenObserve;_duplicates;⠀⇛ Dear syslog-ng users, This is the 115th issue of syslog-ng Insider, a monthly newsletter that brings you syslog-ng-related news. * ⚓ University of Toronto ☛ Partially_emulating_#ifdef_in_Go_with_build tags_and_consts⠀⇛ Thanks to modern compiler technology in the Go toolchain, we can sort of emulate #ifdef through the use of build tags combined with some other tricks. Then finally on 2023-07-02, we had Perl v5.38 released. After the release, I wanted to try new class feature but never got the opportunity to play with it. o ⚓ Perl ☛ Perl_Advent_Calendar_2023:_Santa’s_Workshop_Secrets:_The Magical_Test2_Suite_(Part_1)⠀⇛ Well, not anymore. Talk about a Christmas Miracle <3 o ⚓ Rakulang ☛ Day_13_–_Networks_Roasting_on_an_Open_Fire,_Part_3: Feeling_Warm_and_Looking_Cool⠀⇛ In parts 1 and 2 of these blog posts, I roughed out a simple ping chart program and then began to refactor and add features to improve the overall experience. It’s functional, but there’s a lot to improve upon — it doesn’t use the screen real estate particularly well, there are some common network problems it can’t visualize, and frankly it just doesn’t look all that cool. So let’s fix all that! o ⚓ Rakulang ☛ Day_14_–_The_Magic_Of_Q_(Part_2)⠀⇛ There are two other adverbs that haven’t been covered yet, and there’s a new one if you’re feeling brave. Let’s start with the two already existing ones: [...] * § Python⠀➾ o ⚓ James Bennett ☛ Database_views_in_Django⠀⇛ Most databases support creating and working with views, which, if you’ve never encountered them before, are like a virtual table — instead of being defined by the CREATE TABLE statement, they’re created by the CREATE VIEW statement, and instead of defining their own set of columns they’re defined as a query against one or more other tables. You can query against a view the way you’d query against a table, and your queries will be applied on top of the base query that backs the view. For example, a few years ago I gave a DjangoCon tutorial on the Django ORM, and gave an example of several models — Widget, Factory, and Production — and aggregation queries to track things like production statistics of widgets per factory, etc. I showed how to do this both by writing raw SQL and by using the ORM’s annotation and aggregation features. o ⚓ James Bennett ☛ Database_functions_in_Django⠀⇛ On top of the basic query syntax we’re all used to, SQL databases tend to have a large number of built-in functions — some of which are standardized, some of which are unique to a particular database — and often the ability to write your own custom ones as well. And Django’s ORM supports a lot of standard functions, making it easy to use them in ORM query expressions. But you can also write your own. o ⚓ Seth Michael Larson ☛ Python_listed_as_memory-safe_language_in latest_CISA_recommendations⠀⇛ More support will be needed to migrate Python's extensive packaging ecosystem from memory-unsafe languages to memory-safe languages. I've made recommendations on how best the US government can aid in that effort in the PSF's RFI response. My recommendations included: [...] * § Java⠀➾ o ⚓ Frank Delporte ☛ A_JavaFX_Game_Application_in_a_Single_Java_File with_JBang_and_FXGL⠀⇛ FXGL is a framework to easily create JavaFX-based game applications. In this blog post, I want to show you how this can be done within a single Java-file which doesn’t need a full Maven or Gradle project but can be executed directly with JBang without compilation. There are several ways you can use to find any files you need to access in Linux. The method that works best for you will depend on how you use the Linux operating system. If you are using a Linux distribution like Ubuntu, you might prefer to use the intuitive Files application, which works in a very similar manner to file management systems in Windows 11 or macOS. However, one of the most powerful features of Linux is its core command-line interface and the wide variety of customizable commands you can use there. In our how-to guide, we cover several of the easiest and most useful ways to find files. * ⚓ How_to_remove_a_directory_in_Linux⠀⇛ There are several reasons that you might want to remove a directory in Linux. For example, you may want to improve system performance by freeing up disk space. Or you might simply want a tidier and more organized directory structure, free of unused or unnecessary directories. Our guide takes you through the process of removing directories in Linux. Firstly, we'll look at folder management in Linux distros, and then we cover some of the basic remove commands you can use on the Linux command line interface. A word of warning, though: if you remove directories using the command line, then there is no way to undo your action. If you accidentally delete a file or directory, the only way to get them back is to restore a backup you made prior to deletion. * ⚓ Dump_and_restore:_Helpful_backup_utilities_for_Linux_users⠀⇛ Dump and restore are two Linux utilities that help ensure reliable backups.
