The modular Tang Primer 25K is also compatible with various PMOD modules to develop multiple custom applications. * ⚓ Hackaday ☛ The_AI_Pin:_A_Smart_Body_Camera_That_Wants_To_Compete_With Smartphones⠀⇛ Seeking to shake up the smartphone market, Humane introduced its ‘AI Pin’, which at first glance looks like someone put a very stylish body camera on their chest. There’s no display, only the 13 MP camera and some other optics visible above what turns out to be a touch panel, which is its main gesture-based input method, while it’s affixed to one’s clothing using either a magnet on the other side of the fabric, a wireless powerbank or a clip. Inside the unit you find a Qualcomm octa-core processor with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of eMMC storage, running a custom Android-based ‘Cosmos’ OS. * ⚓ Hackaday ☛ Pimp_The_Potentiometer⠀⇛ Sometimes, a hack isn’t really about the technology but about the logistics. If we asked you to light up an LED using an Arduino, there’s a good chance you’d know exactly how to do that. How about a bunch of LEDs? Simple. Now turn on LEDs proportional to an input voltage. A little harder, but nothing that you probably haven’t done a million times. Finally, arrange the LEDs in an attractive circle around a potentiometer. Wait, how are you going to do that? [Upir] shows us a ready-made ring light for just this purpose and you can see the beautiful thing in the video below. ䷩ 𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚎 315 ╒═══════════════════ 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 ═════════════════════════════════════════════════╕ (ℹ) Images, hyperlinks and comments at https://news.tuxmachines.org/n/2023/11/12/Free_Libre_and_Open_Source_Software_Leftovers.shtml Gemini version at gemini://gemini.tuxmachines.org/n/2023/11/12/Free_Libre_and_Open_Source_Software_Leftovers.gmi ⠀⌧ █▇▆▅▄▃▂▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ Free, Libre, and Open Source Software Leftovers⠀▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▂▃▄▅▆▇█ ⌧ posted by Roy Schestowitz on Nov 12, 2023 * ⚓ Idiomdrottning ☛ Ready-made_regexp_replacers⠀⇛ Here are five Emacs functions that let you do stuff to words, vars, lines, sentences, or paragraphs. * ⚓ JCS ☛ Subtext_3.0_Released⠀⇛ * ⚓ Manuel Moreale ☛ App_Defaults⠀⇛ I discovered this "app defaults" initiative via Andrea's blog (who's also the 6th P&B guest) and thought it was a fun idea so here's my entry: [...] * ⚓ Reproducible_Builds:_Reproducible_Builds_in_October_2023⠀⇛ Welcome to the October 2023 report from the Reproducible_Builds project. The game is supposed to be released one week away from now, on the 17th of november 2023. Yet, there was apparently some mistake (made by something with 10 fingers, no doubt) and the game was accidently released for a few hours on Steam today before being pulled back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO2gbYF7cSA In any case, the game is going to be out soon, for real, this time, and the good news is that Valve has apparently already confirmed that the game will be veriied for the Steam Deck. * ⚓ Tom's Hardware ☛ Steam_Deck_OLED_Teardown_Reveals_a_Complete_Overhaul⠀⇛ The Steam Deck OLED teardown reveals it is not a simple refresh with an OLED display, larger battery, and better storage options. * ⚓ Boiling Steam ☛ New_Steam_Deck_Revision:_OLED_HDR_display,_Better Battery_Life,_Wifi6⠀⇛ While the Steam Deck was already the best handheld available when it launched, there was always a few points of criticism that were certainly valid. The battery life being somewhat short (less than 2 hours on the most demanding titles), and the LCD screen not being one of the best, especially compared to what’s available nowadays on other devices (phones, tablets) where OLED screens are becoming more widespread. Second, if you allow people to specify what tools to use and provide their own, they can flexibly back up a lot of things in a lot of special ways; for example, you could write a custom tool that took a ZFS snapshot of a filesystem and then generated a backup of the snapshot. More complex tricks are possible if people want to write the tools (imagine a database 'backup' program that treated the database as something like a filesystem, indexing it and allowing selective restores). * ⚓ Make Tech Easier ?
