Grml 2026.09 Linux Distro Is Out with Linux Kernel 7.1, Based on Debian 14 Forky
Coming four months after Grml 2026.04, the Grml 2026.09 release is powered by the Linux 7.1 kernel series and incorporates all the package updates and security patches from the upstream Debian Testing software repositories as of September 2026, which will become Debian 14 “Forky” sometime in 2027.
Important changes in Grml 2026.09 include GNU Screen 5.0.1, which means that users of grml screenrc must either upgrade or use the screenrc_v4 file with GNU Screen 4.9, Debian “Forky” can now be selected in the dialog frontend, and /etc/kernel-img.conf now relies on Debian’s defaults.
