Linux's share of English-speaking Steam users reached 8.42% in July 2026.
Valve has published the results of its monthly Steam hardware and software survey for July 2026. According to the data, the share of Linux-based operating systems among English-speaking users reached 8.42%. Overall, across all language groups, the global Linux share on the platform was 4.01%, demonstrating a steady positive trend.

Linux Usage On Steam Is Back Above 4%
There are many things that the Steam Deck has done for me, but one of them was convert me to a Linux lover. Before this, I would use Windows exclusively, and I couldn’t see myself using any other operating system. Now, because of the Steam Deck and SteamOS, Linux is now my preferred OS. Every month, we can see if others feel the same with Valve’s monthly hardware survey, and from the looks of it, it does appear to be growing.
