As we get ready for the Thunderbird Pro launch, we want every service we offer to be secure and worthy of the trust our community places in us. That means being honest about where we stand today and the work we are doing to meet the promises we are making.
Recently we partnered with OSTIF, the Open Source Technology Improvement Fund, and 7ASecurity to perform a full security audit of Thunderbird Send. As previously introduced, Send is an end-to-end encrypted large file sharing service that will be part of the overall Thunderbird Pro subscription suite coming in 2026. It is built on the foundation of the original Firefox Send project, although much has changed since those days.

And that’s very concerning news. Before you think, “So what, it’s just a library,” remember that we’re talking about a core piece of the Linux ecosystem, deeply embedded across infrastructure, desktop environments, programming languages, and security-sensitive workloads. Let me explain.
First, libxml2 is the de facto standard XML and HTML parsing library in the open-source world. It is pulled in by thousands of packages, from low-level system components to high-level applications. Almost all desktop environments depend heavily on it, as do major desktop tools, configuration systems, and document-processing pipelines.

Raspberry Pi ☛ A new documentation team and a new documentation process
As a company that began with a mission to empower people by making computing accessible, it’s no surprise that we view our technical documentation as an important part of our products. To that end, we are powering up our documentation team. This year, we have added two new Documentation Specialists to our staff: Jeunese Payne, who comes from a psychology and UX background, and Kat Shann (that’s me — hello!), with 15 years’ experience as a technical author with a background in software.
