LXQt 2.4 Desktop Environment Released with More Wayland Improvements

Coming more than five months after LXQt 2.3, the LXQt 2.4 release improves Wayland support with separate settings for Wayland and X11 sessions, the ability to open the main menu with a shortcut, a tooltip on how to configure shortcut selectors in panel menus, and better support of desktop items on multi-screen setups.

AlmaLinux OS 10.1 Officially Released with Support for the Btrfs File System

Highlights of the AlmaLinux OS 10.1 release include support for the Btrfs file system, SPICE support, the enablement of frame pointers by default, the enablement of the CRB repository by default for new AlmaLinux OS installations, and extended support for x86_64_v2 processors.

AlmaLinux OS 10.1 also introduces performance enhancements, updated development tools, and improves security. The toolchain has been updated as well to GCC 15.1, GNU Binutils 2.44, GNU C Library 2.39, LLVM 20.1.8, Rust 1.88.0, Go 1.24, and Annobin 12.99.

AlmaLinux 10.1 Lands with Full Btrfs Installation Support

Six months after the major 10 release, powered by kernel 6.12 LTS, AlmaLinux announces the global availability of the first update in the series, AlmaLinux 10.1 (Heliotrope Lion).

As we informed you earlier, one of the key additions in this release is full Btrfs support. AlmaLinux 10.1 now allows installations directly onto Btrfs from the beginning, with both kernel and userspace components enabled. The initial focus is on installer and storage-stack integration, with broader Btrfs tooling support planned for upcoming updates.

Hardware compatibility expands significantly with AlmaLinux reintroduces a long list of upstream-dropped PCI IDs for storage controllers, network adapters, and Fibre Channel hardware, restoring support for older but still-used systems. This includes hardware from Adaptec, Dell PERC, HP Smart Array, IBM ServeRAID, QLogic, Emulex, Mellanox, Broadcom MegaRAID, LSI MPT SAS, and more.
