The Free Software Community and Userbase of GNU/Linux Too Large to "Put Down"
Further to the previous post regarding "high-exposure endorsements and promotions of GNU/Linux," consider recent data about how many people use GNU/Linux. Based on Steam Survey, statCounter, and the US government's sites, about 5% of people use GNU with Linux (not counting Android, which is also Linux) on clients, not just servers. So we're looking at over 100 million users of GNU/Linux "out there", some in places that obscure their adoption of the platform (China for instance).
This sort of community is way beyond (or above) the threshold that might otherwise let Microsoft "Exterminate" it like it has long done with E.E.E. tactics. The main question is, how quickly will it grow and what level of freedom can it maintain as it becomes more widespread? "Anticheat" (rootkits) ought not be the goal. █
