Encryption Making Africa Safer: Internet Society Hosts Encryption Advocacy Workshop for African Civil Society

In September 2025, the Internet Society organized its first-ever Africa Cybersecurity (Encryption) Advocacy Workshop in Windhoek, Namibia, held alongside the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica), a leading regional convening on digital rights and governance that brings policymakers, advocates, technologists, and journalists together to shape an open, secure Internet.

Just over a week ago we saw in person the person who had abused us for years [1, 2]. He had heckled and defamed me since 2012 and he had been bothering my wife with threats for several years. 9 days ago he expressed some remorse about how had had addressed my wife and hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.

When some people go online they wrongly assume that manners don't matter, maybe riding some "ego trips" bolstered by addictive social control media. Either way, all we want to do is run our sites without being constantly abused. █
