The endless customizability is one of my favorite features of the Linux ecosystem, as there are tons of ways to fine-tune most distros to my liking. And I don’t just mean the UI either – practically every aspect of Linux distros, be it their bootloaders, init systems, and even kernel modules. I’ve often considered building my own Linux distribution from scratch, and there are tools designed specifically for the task. But with all my home lab experiments and DevOps projects, I’ve never found the time to mesh together a Linux distribution using complex CLI utilities.
Luckily, I happened to stumble upon the Cubic repo by developer PJ-Singh-001 during yet another doomscrolling session on GitHub. As someone who dreaded putting together a custom Linux OS, Cubic helped me create a bootable distro filled with my favorite packages without costing me my sanity.
