Quoting: Kdenlive 24.12 Added Multiple Subtitle Tracks & Removed Qt5 Support | UbuntuHandbook —
Kdenlive, the popular Qt-based free open-source video editor, released new 24.12 version a few days ago.
The new release package was made available on December 14. KDE.org announced it within KDE Gear 24.12, though there’s still no official release note in kdenlive website at the moment of writing.
If you can’t wait for the official release note (the link is 404 not found at the moment), then here’s a quick overview about what’s new in this new video editor release.

Kdenlive 24.12.0 released - Kdenlive
We are happy to announce Kdenlive 24.12. This release focuses on bug fixes, improved stability, and usability enhancements across the board. Numerous crashes and glitches have been addressed, including issues with audio capture, effect zones, high DPI display rendering, and subtitle editing. Proxies, rotoscoping, and project management workflows have been significantly refined, resolving lags, incorrect EXIF orientation handling, and archiving problems. We’ve managed to sneak in some little nifty features as well like the ability to resize multiple timeline items, Shift + Del shortcut to extract clips from the timeline, added actions to quickly add Marker/Guides in a specific category and mixes (same track transitions) can be 1 frame long.
Under the hood, we’ve dropped support for Qt5 and now require Qt6, alongside updated dependencies (MLT 7.28 and KF 6.3). This release comes with a lot of code cleanups and refactored Whisper settings. Optimized threading and memory management. Additionally, fail-safe measures have been taken to prevent invalid project profiles and script names.

Kdenlive 24.12: New Subtitle Features and Workflow Enhancements
Over a month after its previous 24.08.3 release, Kdenlive has just rolled out version 24.12, focused intensely on stability, reliability, and user-friendly improvements.
In particular, numerous crashes and glitches have been fixed, covering everything from audio capture troubles to effect zones, high-DPI display rendering issues, and even subtle hiccups in subtitle editing.
Moreover, the updated version refines proxy handling, rotoscoping functionality, and project management workflows, addressing lingering lags, tricky EXIF orientation problems, and archiving difficulties that users have previously encountered.
As a little bonus, you can now resize multiple timeline items at once, take advantage of a handy “Shift + Del” shortcut to extract clips directly from the timeline, and quickly add markers or guides by category. On top of that, the improved handling of mixes (same-track transitions) now allows for transitions as short as a single frame.
Kdenlive Update Adds New Subtitle Tools, Effects + More - OMG! Ubuntu
Kdenlive 24.12 arrives stuffed like a seasonal bird with bug fixes, performance tweaks, and usability enhancements. Additionally, the editor’s developers have removed support for Qt5 so that, as of this release, it is entirely Qt6.
Subtitling gets a big boost with the arrival of Advanced SubStation Alpha (ASS) subtitle support. The key benefit of these subtitles (I’ll swerve calling them ASS) is greater customisation, including things like text strokes, drop shadows, margins, and even effects like masking.
