Huawei claims HarmonyOS NEXT kernel is 3x more efficient than Linux
Huawei has unveiled a self-developed operating system called the HarmonyOS NEXT. At the development event, the CEO described the OS as fully independent with a full-stack AI framework. The CEO has also claimed that the Harmony kernel is three times more efficient than Linux.
Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT is the next big thing from the company. As Yu Chengdong, Huawei's Consumer Business Group CEO, describes, "It's a real operating system and not an Android skin." The CEO further clarified that the OS doesn't run on Linux or Unix.
Instead, HarmonyOS NEXT utilizes a self-developed Harmony kernel, which Huawei claims is three times more memory efficient than Linux cores. The company says the OS uses a 'heterogenous native-like" mechanism, making the operating system capable of delivering a fluid experience.

Huawei prepares to split from Android on consumer devices with HarmonyOS Next
Huawei last week detailed a major release of its HarmonyOS that will see the Chinese giant break with the Linux ecosystem.
HarmonyOS was launched in 2019 – initially as an OS for IoT devices, but later adapted to run on smartphones and other hardware. Huawei suggested the OS could run on its wearables, tablet computers, smartphones, and smart TVs, and offer a unified experience across all.
That's a lot like the sort of thing Google can deliver with Android, with which HarmonyOS was compatible.
But between the geopolitical difficulties of cross-border tech transfers, and a desire to build the best possible offering, through 2023 Huawei indicated that it would build a version of HarmonyOS that broke with the Android ecosystem – even if that meant pain for developers and users.

What's Happening: According to a recent report, Huawei has unveiled a new kernel called “Harmony kernel” for its next generation of HarmonyOS that claims to be three times more efficient than the Linux kernel.
